The Museum of Folk Architecture in Kouřim is part of the Regional Museum in Kolín, a contributory organization of the Central Bohemian Region. It was founded in 1972 in the setting of an old orchard and opened to the public in 1976. The founders of the regional rescue open-air museum soon had the ambition to transform it into the only open-air museum in the Czech Republic that collects architectural monuments from the entire territory of Bohemia, thus offering a direct comparison of various regional types of folk architecture from the period starting from the 17th century.
