Ústí nad Labem is a completely abandoned castle on the southern edge of the historical core of the same name city. It was likely founded when an older settlement was elevated to a town around 1250, and the first written mention of it dates back to 1283, when King Václav II pledged it along with other towns to Otto of Brandenburg. The castle served, among other functions, as a watchpoint that protected the crossing over the Elbe River and where tolls were collected.
